I have always enjoyed expressing myself with writing, except perhaps is those occasions when a professor required it! I have over 20 years of journal entries scattered among boxes in my attic and carry one with me at almost all times with prayers, poetry, dreams, and various rants or ramblings about life. I tried journaling via my laptop, but still carry a paper journal with me almost everywhere I go. In my professional career much of my communication was through the written word; even talks I gave were preceded by the written word. For me, there is something about the process of writing that stimulates clarity. So why a blog? Why now?
First, I arrived at a conclusion that I might actually have something to offer that others would appreciate, or even might benefit from reading. I am not sure what it took me this long to reach that decision. Perhaps it was false humility, insecurity or fear of putting my self out there for all the world to see. At any rate, I actually believe I can make a difference in someone’s life by sharing something from my world with them.
Second, I want to communicate with and connect with people. I live in the reality that my connections, friendships and relationships are scattered throughout this world. One of my values is to live authentically. This value pushes me to be vulnerable and to risk. I don’t always like that, but yet that is the kind of person that I want to be. So this is an opportunity for me to share a small piece of myself, and for you to peak into my world.
Third, I want to engage and learn from life. I hope that as I express my thoughts on life that I will learn about myself and position myself to learn from others.
So, a blog it is. I am curious where it will lead me.
